FY-2013 Grants: Funding Security for Mississippi

On September 28, 2012, the President of the United States signed P.L. 112-175. This public law is a continuing resolution that will allow the Fiscal Year 2015 Homeland Security Appropriations Act to be funded. This provided vital funding needed to ensure the safety of our homeland. Grant funds were awarded to Mississippi with the intent of increasing the terrorist deterrence and prevention abilities of the state. Mississippi was granted $3,734,500.00 through the State Homeland Security Program (SHSGP). A minimum of 25% ($933,625) of the SHSGP funds are used for Law Enforcement Terrorism Prevention Program Initiatives. The State Homeland Security Grant Program funds are to be administered by the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security. These grant funds are to be used to safeguard Mississippi's citizens from terrorist activities and are specifically designed to aid in the prevention efforts before such events can take place.

The money attained through the State Homeland Security Grant Program is used to aid in the training of emergency first responders, the purchase of state of the art equipment for combating and preventing terrorist acts and for planning, and exercise. The State Homeland Security Grant Program funds are also used for management, administration and the development of citizen corps projects at the local level. This year, the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security allocated available funds to 60 local jurisdictions and 8 state agencies.

All of this information shows that the Federal Government, the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security, Law Enforcement, Emergency Responders, and Citizen Corp groups are working together to help ensure Mississippi will remain safe and vigilant. Included below are details of the grants allocated to Mississippi for the 2005-2014 fiscal years.
